So my mother, who I guess I can already declare a Dana fan as well, found this article while I was still asleep. It’s in Spanish so I translated it, it’s very sarcastic but in a good way.
Dana Delany is, in Body of Proof, the medical examiner’s Anna Wintour. The way Megan Hunt, her character on the show, walks into her office in Philadelphia (that city so ungrateful as set, due to it’s perfetcness), are fit as Wintour’s in ‘The September Issue’ (fantastic documental, by the way), with her sunglasses like Jackie O, the Starbucks cup or her outfit. They only differ in the hair. The actitude is, in both cases, the same: superiority, depotism and extra-class. The medical examener’s a harpy, cold, but solves cases like nobody. And almost no one likes her.
After watching ‘Body Of Proof’s pilot, it’s quite obvious we’ll get hooked into Delany’s character, which isn’t that hard anyway, as she’s a know-it-all bitch and with resources (intelectual and money wise) as those are things we love. If not, ask Patty Hewes or Amanda Daniels (Carla Gugino in ‘Entourage). A good bitch sells, and more if she has a good heart, too. And the rule says a viper can only be the leading character of a show, needs to have, at least, a bit of goodness and, if they don’t, fill it with an impressive wickedness. That’s why Amanda Daniels (who is a poor fool in the end) isn’t the lead whereas Patty Hewes is.
Dana Delany’s Dr. Hunt fills the requiements to be ‘Body of Proof’s lead, a procedural like ‘CSI’ which will be lucky to air after ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ first season’s over. Those of you who have seen ‘R & I’ know why I say this. There’ll be comparations, obviously. Also between Delany and Mary McDonnell, as both seem to share the same face, as in using it in turns, like Marisa Paredes and Eusebio Poncela (yes, I also agree with the theory that says they’re the same person).
Above all, ‘Body of Proof’ is the umpteenth revision of a procedural with a really interesting lead, but with unorthodox methoods. Once again, we’re thankful those methods are at least scientific and arguable, and not ridiculous and supernatural. That’s just what was missing, a witch with the attitude of a caribbean dictator’s ex wife with powers. Then the world wouldn’t be enough, running away from her deathly bolts of lightning and her Max Mara’s sarcasm.
