So two updates in one! A new photoshoot which in truth is old as for Dana’s hair I’d say it was taken while she was filming Pasadena. And Dana was out last night at The Cool Comedy-Hot Cuisine Fundraiser To Benefit The Scleroderma Research Foundation, like usual even if we didn’t see her in the past two SRF events, bet she went ninja haha. Also, if you notice, it’s the very same dress she wore to the Third Academy Honors earlier this month but with a different pattern/print, the design is the same even if she pulled it up some more to show more skin. If anyone’s interested both dresses are Dolce & Gabbana.

Two years ago, our historic September 5, 2008 fundraising telecast brought all three major networks – CBS, ABC and NBC – together in an unprecedented collaboration. Today we are very excited to announce that we’re returning to primetime on September 10th to continue broadening public support for our mission of funding groundbreaking, collaborative cancer research. This morning, network evening news anchors Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer and Brian Williams appeared on CBS’ “The Early Show,” ABC’s “Good Morning America,” and NBC’s “Today Show” to talk about the upcoming telecast and the progress SU2C has made in the two years since our launch. Check out the clips below.

Source – it has clips of the announcement for those of you interested.

If you wonder why we’re posting this is simple:

1) If you check the right sidebar, it’s one of the orgs we support.

2) Also Dana supports this one, she was at the telecast 2 years ago (mamogram moment anyone?) and she’s one of the ambassadors/spokesperson.

So my guess is that Dana will be there this year again. And I’ve been thinking about buying one of the shirts for a long time, maybe now I do it.

Dana Delany, who portrays Katherine on the show, is spokeswoman for the Child Hunger Ends Here Neighborhood Rally campaign, sponsored by the food company ConAgra and the hunger relief organization Feeding America. She and other cast members held a rally on the show’s set to publicize the effort to eradicate childhood hunger.

“No matter what the ladies go through on (Wisteria) Lane, they always come together at the end to help each other out,” Delany said by phone from California last week.

Delany talked about the problem of childhood hunger and several other topics (the interview was conducted before news broke about former “Housewives” actress Nicolette Sheridan’s lawsuit against show creator Marc Cherry and ABC, and we were unable to reach Delany for a follow-up question). First, we discussed dolphins.

Q: The first thing I have to ask: A recent magazine story said you swam with 400 dolphins.

A:Oh, that stupid article. Yes, yes I did. It was pretty amazing. I was visiting a friend in Hawaii and we decided to go swimming. She’s kind of a spiritual person and we went to swim with the dolphins, and it turned out they had all congregated at the end of the runway on the big island, of all places. Right next to the airport. It was great. They were very playful.

Q: You’ve been busy — “Desperate Housewives,” a TV pilot (“Body of Evidence”), a film (“Multiple Sarcasms,” coming out in May). We sometimes hear that Hollywood just wants fresh young faces, but for an actress who has — and I want to be very careful here — been around for a number of years, you seem to have no trouble finding work.

A: I feel very grateful. First of all, I love what I do, which I think makes a difference. I love to act. I don’t really care what the venue is as long as the writing’s good. And I do believe in the end it’s sort of a matter of the last man standing. If I just hang in there long enough I’ll keep working.

Q: Talk about Child Hunger Ends Here. How did you get involved?

A: They came to me. I don’t do anything unless I really research it and find out whether it’s worthy. When I was shooting the pilot in Rhode Island recently, I went to a food bank there that Feeding America has. And it’s really remarkable. They told me that last year Feeding America fed 37 million people in America. And they think because of the economy it’s going to be 50 million this year. That’s the scary thing, when parents can’t feed their kids. You hear stories about parents going hungry rather than their kids going hungry. It’s kind of this silent stalker that people don’t want to talk about because it’s embarrassing.

Q: When you take up a cause, do you ever worry about possibly alienating people? Some entertainers and athletes avoid taking a stand on anything. You seem fine with speaking your mind.

A: I have no problem with speaking my mind. I feel it’s my life and it’s going to be over soon, so I’d better be authentic.

Q: It’s going to be over soon?

A: You never know (laughs).

Q: Explain how people can help.

A: If people go to ChildHungerEndsHere.com, they can see … ways they can get involved. They can go to the Web site and get all the information to get a free package of stuff (so they can) host their own rally to raise money. Or they can go shopping.

One question I often get asked is what makes for a good (and memorable) drama series. I’ve always believed that the heavily character-driven shows usually stand the best chance because viewers want to identify with one or more of the characters, they want to care and get invested in that character. In addition to the characters, I also believe that the shows that have defined a generation make for the most memorable of the bunch.

In a business where people seek the fountain of youth above all else, women from all walks of life were relieved when Desperate Housewives made it cool to be in your thirties, forties and fifties. Gone were the stereotypical housewives who “obey” their husbands and were barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen.

Three years ago, Katherine Mayfair arrived on Wisteria Lane to give the neighborhood a much-needed makeover. Her character has escaped an abusive husband, dated the neighborhood hottie, spent time in a mental institution and reexamined her sexuality by entering into a lesbian relationship with an ex-stripper.

Dana Delany, who plays Katherine on the hit series, became a household name back in the ’80s when she starred in the popular drama China Beach, and has kept us entertained ever since with that captivating and charismatic personality. I had the good fortune to speak with Dana about her days on China Beach, her role on Desperate Housewives, and a cause that is very close to her heart…

Q: When did the acting big strike?

Dana: “I was three-years-old. I just knew I liked it, it was fun and nobody in my family had done it. I liked putting on little skits and plays and things like that.”

Q: In addition to Desperate Housewives, you starred in the classic series China Beach — which role are you most recognized these days?

Dana: “I’d say there are three that get mentioned to me the most: China Beach, which I’m still proud of, Tombstone, which is a big favorite with the guys, and now Desperate Housewives because it’s such a worldwide phenomenon.”

Q: China Beach was such an influential series, were there any episodes that were particularly difficult to film?

Dana: “The whole show was hard actually. I was still a young actor at that point and would drive to work every day not sure if I could pull it off. It was wonderful in the sense that it was a challenge and it’s rare that as an actor you get to go home at night feeling like you really did something. That’s how I felt everyday on that show.”

Q: I understand you are involved in a very special charity, please tell us about it…

Dana: “It’s called Child Hunger Ends Here and it’s being put together by ConAgra, who is in partnership with Feeding America, a food bank organization. They came to me to talk about this issue that was shocking to me — 1 in 4 children in America don’t know where their next meal is coming from. It’s a silent problem nobody talks about because it’s embarrassing for a parent to admit that. I just thought, we help so many other countries, why not help our own — let’s start here at home. It starts right in your own neighborhood and people can get involved. Website: Child Hunger Ends Here

Anyone can register and they’ll give you a whole free package so you can start your own rally to raise money to go to these food banks. You can also buy some of the ConAgra products listed and each one sold will go towards raising money for 2.5 million meals. Also on the website will be a celebrity auction where you can buy items that celebrities have donated. For me in particular and courtesy of ABC is this Christian Dior dress I wore on Desperate Housewives the last episode I was on. They may have to fight me for that because I really loved that dress.”

Q: How long have you been involved in Child Hunger Ends Here?

Dana: “This is a new cause for me. I don’t get involved in anything until I do my research, so I know that this is a good one.”

Q: Is it true that you turned down the role of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex & the City?

Dana: “Well, it was in the developmental stages of Sex & the City… Darren Starr was a friend of mine and I had been doing this little indie called Live Nude Girls (with Kim Cattrall). He saw the movie, which is very similar – four women sitting around talking about sex. I think it helped him with the idea, combined with Candace Bushnell’s columns. He asked me if I’d like to be a part of it and at that point, I had done so many movies about sex and told him I couldn’t do one more movie with sex in the title, people will kill me! That part is so much Sarah Jessica Parker’s role, she made it what it is. I would never have had the fashion sense that she has.”

Q: And you also turned down the role of Bree on DH?

Dana: “Yes, they had offered me the role of Bree and again, I turned it down for what I thought were good reasons at the time — I had just done a show that was very similar called Pasadena and I didn’t want to repeat myself. These are just decisions you make. Of course, I did have those moments with Desperate Housewives where I thought oh my god, am I insane, what happened? I love being on the show now. Marc Cherry has been great to me. It’s rare that people give you a second chance, so I will always be grateful to him.”

Q: Katherine and her new girlfriend left Wisteria Lane, are you planning to return to the series?

Dana: “We don’t know. I just did this pilot with ABC and we’ll find out in May if it’s picked up. If it doesn’t get picked up, it would be nice to go back to Desperate Housewives if there’s room for me.”

Q: What has been your favorite Desperate Housewives episode?

Dana: “I’ve had so many. What I love about this show is you can go from raw comedy to deep, serious emotions, and you can do that in one episode. I think it’s amazing that the show is able to pull that off. I really enjoyed my stuff with Bree. I thought the competition between me and Bree that turned into a friendship was probably the most fun for me. It was both funny and catty, yet we ended up really loving each other in the end.”

Q: Were you a fan of the show before you got the role?

Dana: “I was! It was like nothing else — I’ve done a lot of TV and I’ve seen these kind of shows fail constantly, but somehow Marc found the combination of comedy, drama and mystery, he found the right balance. The fact that people from all over the world relate to it is phenomenal.”

Q: You are starring in a pilot for ABC, what can you tell us about it?

Dana: “It’s completely different. It’s a procedural and because it’s ABC, the series is very character-driven. My character was a very successful brain surgeon who had a car accident and her hands go numb now, so she can’t operate anymore and has become a medical examiner. She tries to figure out each week what has happened to these people. It was called Body of Evidence, but they have to change it because it’s a Patricia Cornwell novel, so they’re throwing out different names. It might end up being called M.E. — I think that’s a good title.”

Q: Will you be able to star in both series?

Dana: “No, I couldn’t do that because I’d be the lead of the new show.”

Q: Do you have any projects in the works?

Dana: “Yes, I have a movie coming out this month called Multiple Sarcasms, which is a little indie I did with Timothy Hutton and Mira Sorvino.”

Q: Anything to say to the fans?

Dana: “I’d really like for them to go online and sign up for the Child Hunger campaign because we all need to join together and help our neighborhoods.”
